Welcome to DITC’s Military English Teacher Training Module

Welcome, Teachers.

In this module, you will view three recorded Military English lessons delivered at DITC by three different instructors. These videos are designed to support your review of effective teaching practices covered in MELT, while also demonstrating how DITC Military English materials are used in an authentic classroom setting.

Some teachers may feel less confident teaching Military English due to limited familiarity with military content. Please remember that you are the expert in teaching and training. A strong lesson does not require deep subject-matter expertise. As with any new topic, effective preparation may include reviewing the teacher’s notes, conducting brief background research, and completing your usual lesson planning. You can also draw on your learners’ experience and knowledge—encouraging students to contribute is an excellent way to foster a learner-centred classroom environment.

Each video runs for approximately 30–40 minutes and may be viewed in any order. We recommend watching each video in one sitting. You may pause the video; however, extended pauses (for example, overnight) may cause the video to reset, requiring you to restart.

This module is not an assessment. It is intended as a refresher on teaching techniques and an opportunity to observe how Military English lessons are delivered at DITC. You may also find it useful to compare approaches, reflect on practice, and discuss observations with your colleagues.

We hope you enjoy the module. If you have any questions or feedback, please contact us at ditc.militaryenglish@defence.gov.au.
